January 16, 2024 — On January 11, 2024, the GAO released a report titled “Prenatal Supplements: Amounts of Some Key Nutrients Differed from Product Labels.” The report details that a laboratory, contracted by GAO, analyzed 12 prenatal supplements for specific nutrient levels. The investigation asserts that 11 out of 12 supplements deviated from their labeled amounts for at least one nutrient (folic acid, iodine, iron, vitamin A, C, or E), potentially leading to overconsumption or under consumption of the labeled nutrients.

JANUARY 12, 2024— CRN is issuing a warning to consumers against purchasing and using any products containing tianeptine. These products are often falsely marketed as dietary supplements and can pose significant health risks.

JANUARY 9, 2024 – The Council for Responsible Nutrition, in partnership with NSF, will host a two-day virtual training entitled GMP Inspections: “What to Do When the FDA Comes Knocking.” The series begins on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at 1 p.m. EST, with the first part focusing on an overview of the GMP inspection process and how to prepare for it, followed by the second part entitled “What to Expect During and After the GMP Inspection,” on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. EST.

NOVEMBER 15, 2023 – The Council for Responsible Nutrition provided in-person and written testimony in Boston to voice opposition to H.2215/S.1465, which, if enacted, would prohibit access to safe and beneficial dietary supplements to consumers 18 years of age and younger—and limit access to these products by consumers of all ages.

NOVEMBER 14, 2023 – The Council for Responsible Nutrition has responded to a newly published research letter ("Characteristics of Melatonin Use Among US Children and Adolescents") appearing in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics, which cites irrelevant and flawed data to raise unnecessary alarm about pediatric use of melatonin.

NOVEMBER 3, 2023 – The Council for Responsible Nutrition expressed disappointment with today’s FDA delay in responding to CRN’s Citizen Petition submitted May 9, which requested the agency officially clarify its interpretation of the drug preclusion clause within the 180 days prescribed by law. The FDA attributed its failure to reach a decision on the petition within the statutory prescribed timeframe to “competing agency priorities.”
