CRN Board considers dietary supplement product registry development and other business at March meeting in Washington

Participation in the Office of Dietary Supplements Dietary Supplement Label Database is responsible industry’s “civic duty,” but it is not enough, CRN President Steve Mister said in a presentation to the Board of Directors last week about the need for a more robust platform to achieve the association’s goals. Mr. Mister summarized results of the work of CRN’s Product Transparency Working Group over more than a year, explaining that CRN is uniquely qualified to lead this initiative and must act swiftly. CRN’s Duffy MacKay then presented additional details. CRN’s proposed dietary supplement product registry database would include a free tier that reflects the Product Transparency Working Group’s recommendations and a second tier that adds opportunities to showcase quality practices and other features. CRN will make a formal announcement with additional details in April; CRN members should look for a letter from Mr. Mister discussing the Board’s action soon.

Other business included approval of a resolution to support in concept the creation of Raw Materials GMP Guidelines and commit CRN resources to the development and implementation of those guidelines throughout the botanical supply chain. The Board also approved applications fromeight new member companies, to be announced in a future press release.

A top-line report from the March 17 Board of Directors meeting will be available on CRN’s Members Only website soon.
