Community-wide collaboration crucial to improving nutrition education, panel urges

It’s “all hands on deck” when it comes to improving nutrition education and making nutrition a relevant and accessible part of the conversation surrounding overall health and wellness, urged Dr. Freda Lewis-Hall during a panel discussion on the closing day of Now, New, Next last week. Informa’s Jon Benninger, Michelle Stout of Amway/Nutrilite, and Christine Burdick-Bell of Pharmavite joined Dr. Lewis-Hall.

Collaboration is key in promoting and improving nutrition, the panel agreed. Highlighting their companies’ respective nutrition education and access programs, Stout and Burdick-Bell emphasized the importance of engaging stakeholders within and throughout communities to best identify ways to support their unique needs.

Take-home message: Whether through school lunch programs, outreach to healthcare practitioners, employee education programs, or other initiatives, supplement and functional food companies are well-positioned to increase underserved populations’ access to nutrition education and nutritional products.
