NAD ‘Fast Track SWIFT’ program enhances options for speedier advertising challenges
Companies have a new, quicker way of addressing advertising challenges—and helping maintain a level playing field with competitors while protecting against erosion of consumer confidence. CRN’s longtime partner, the National Advertising Division (NAD), part of the BBB National Programs, Inc. has developed the Fast-Track SWIFT (Single Well-defined Issue Fast Track) program to expedite resolution of simple, single-issue advertising disputes.
Following a brief background and history of CRN’s work with NAD from CRN’s Megan Olsen, NAD’s senior staff attorney Kat Dunnigan spoke about the new program during CRN’s Regulatory Affairs Committee call last week. Kat explained that the Fast-Track SWIFT program responds to industry concerns that the standard timeline for tracking more complicated cases can be too long—especially when it comes to digital advertising and those simple, but easily repeatable if unchecked, offenses. Examples of cases that are ideal for fast-tracking include: those in which the material connection between an influencer and advertiser is not disclosed; those with content that looks editorial but is really an ad; misleading sales and pricing claims; and simple express claims, Kat noted.
The NAD portal makes it easy for challengers to file new challenges and for advertisers to view and respond. Megan noted during the call that it is more important than ever that responsible companies stay engaged and take advantage of the lower cost and expedited process NAD offers as the official CRN-supported program winds down at the end of June.
