Comments to the Board: Our Common Hope

Introductory comments of CRN Board Chairman David Campbell at the start of CRN’s June 4th Board of Directors meeting:

As we begin our meeting, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the injustice and the protests and the violence over the past week. Even CRN’s own office building is currently boarded up and many of the businesses on the block have been vandalized.

All of us are impacted by the incident that precipitated the events of this week.

We all want to trust that law enforcement will use its authority with restraint and justice.

We all want to feel safe in our communities, free from violence, whether it comes from law enforcement or from angry mobs.

We all want to be liberated from racism and to know that ourselves, our neighbors and all Americans are judged, in the words of Martin Luther King, not by the color of our skin but the content of our hearts.

So, I’d like to begin today with just a moment of silent reflection as we express our common hope for calm minds to find solutions, a strong will to work for justice, and open hearts to strive for peace.
