Responsible with Caffeine

At CRN, we're committed to consumer safety and wellbeing, especially when it comes to caffeine-containing dietary supplements. Because we understand that consumers want clear information about what’s in their supplements and how to use them safely, we’ve developed voluntary guidelines to ensure just that. Our member companies, dedicated to putting consumers first, follow these guidelines to offer transparency and responsible practices around caffeine content.

Initially launched in 2013 and updated in 2015 and 2018, these guidelines reflect our proactive response to evolving FDA guidance. The guidelines outline best practices such as clear labeling of caffeine amounts, advisories for safe usage, and recommendations against certain marketing practices that could encourage misuse. For example, our members avoid marketing caffeine-containing supplements in combination with alcohol or in bulk and concentrated forms that can pose risks if not measured precisely.

These guidelines are all about empowering consumers to make informed choices. We encourage all dietary supplement companies to join us in promoting responsible usage by labeling caffeine content per serving, offering safe daily intake recommendations, and providing advisories for specific groups such as children and those with medical conditions.

By following these recommendations, CRN members showcase their commitment to consumer safety and support for transparent, responsible supplement use. We believe these practices protect consumers and help them make the best choices for their health. Download our latest guidelines to learn more.
