CRN Presents Tieraona Low Dog, M.D., to Discuss Herbal Products in Free Webinar for Skipta Pharmacist and Nurse Practitioner Members

Washington, D.C., May 5, 2015—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, today announced that renowned integrative medicine expert Tieraona Low Dog, M.D., will be the featured presenter during a free webinar for pharmacists and nurse practitioners (NPs) on Tuesday, June 16, at 1 pm Eastern. The webinar is presented exclusively to pharmacist and NP members of Skipta, the leading network of specialized online medical communities for verified healthcare professionals.

During this one-hour webinar entitled, “Incorporating Herbal Supplements into Your Practice: The Science and Regulations Behind Five Popular Botanicals,” Dr. Low Dog will draw on her years of expertise to share science-based information about the clinical use of turmeric, butterbur, elderberry, hibiscus, and peppermint. Dr. Low Dog will also give an overview of the regulations that help ensure the quality and safety of herbal products, including mandatory good manufacturing practices (GMPs) that call for appropriate product and ingredient testing, among many other requirements.

Dr. Low Dog is an internationally recognized expert in the fields of integrative medicine, dietary supplements and women’s health. She was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy, served as the elected chair of the U.S. Pharmacopeia Dietary Supplements and Botanicals Expert Information Panel, was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Council for the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (now the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health), has been an invited speaker to more than 550 scientific/medical conferences, published 45 peer-reviewed  articles, written 20 chapters for medical textbooks, and has authored four books, including two National Geographic books, “Healthy at Home”and “Life is Your Best Medicine.” She has appeared on CNN, ABC’s “20/20,” and is a frequent guest on NPR’s “The People’s Pharmacy.”
