Washington, D.C., April 22, 2014—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the dietary supplement industry’s leading trade association, is a Bronze sponsor of the 3rd International Vitamin Conference (IVC), taking place in Washington, D.C., May 12–15. The scientific symposium will feature more than 50 oral presentations and more than 40 poster presentations, providing participants with an excellent opportunity to strengthen international collaborations for ongoing research in the vitamin community.

In addition to CRN’s sponsorship, Dr. MacKay will present during a “lunch and learn” session taking place Wednesday, May 14, at noon. Titled, “The Role of Vitamin Supplements in Filling Nutrient Gaps,” his talk will focus on published data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) demonstrating that large proportions of the U.S. population are not obtaining sufficient levels of several essential vitamins and minerals. In addition, Dr. MacKay will present data from a review he co-authored, recently published in Nutrition Journal, that analyzed more than 20 studies on the health habits of dietary supplement users to provide insight into the lifestyle choices of this large segment of the American population.

On Friday, May 16, following this conference, the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Dietary Supplements Stakeholder Forum, chaired by CRN, will take place in Rockville, Md., just outside of Washington, D.C.
