CRN President and Veteran Legal & Regulatory Attorney to Co-chair Dietary Supplement Conference Presented by ACI and CRN

Washington, D.C., March 26, 2015—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, today announced that President & CEO Steve Mister will co-chair the Third Annual Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Forum on Dietary Supplements with Scott Bass, partner at the law firm Sidley & Austin LLP.

The conference takes place in New York City on June 24 and 25 and is being presented by the American Conference Institute (ACI), a leading think tank known for producing substantive conferences for all major industry sectors, in collaboration with CRN.

Mr. Mister has been at the helm of CRN since 2005, honing the association’s strategic focus and launching initiatives that have increased industry responsibility and consumer education. As an attorney, Mr. Mister’s legal expertise complements his in-depth knowledge of dietary supplement regulation and his extensive experience as an advocate for the industry before Congress, FDA and state legislatures.

Mr. Bass heads Sidley Austin’s global Life Sciences team, coordinating pharmaceutical, medical device, food and dietary supplement matters in the U.S., Europe and Asia. He is ranked internationally among the top authorities on FDA-related enforcement and regulatory issues. As the lead industry negotiator and one of the principal drafters of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), Mr. Bass has deftly counseled clients on compliance with that law for the past 20 years.

“I’m very pleased to team up with Scott to develop a strong agenda for this conference. His insights on timely issues will be valuable as we shape the program,” said Mr. Mister. “With so much transition at FDA and legal observers keenly following court cases between supplement marketers and the FTC, the landscape is rich with substantive issues to discuss. I invite supplement industry executives to join us in New York for content that will help them devise strategies to deal with the regulatory and legal obstacles facing the industry.”
