CRN Regulatory Summit to Feature Four FDA Speakers—May 5 inaugural event to take place just outside Washington, DC

Washington, D.C., March 16, 2016—Four prominent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials are confirmed speakers at the Council for Responsible Nutrition’s (CRN) inaugural Regulatory Summit, taking place Thursday, May 5, at the Hyatt Regency, Bethesda, Md., the trade association announced today.

  • Robert Durkin, acting deputy director of the newly designated Office of Dietary Supplement Programs (ODSP) within FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), will provide an update on the agency’s enforcement actions and priorities.
  • Latasha Robinson, acting director of the Division of Enforcement in CFSAN’s Office of Compliance, will explain how FDA maintains consistency across district offices through inspector training.
  • Angela Pope, an expert on regulatory implementation in FDA’s ODSP, will discuss the agency’s expectations for own-label marketers that use contract manufacturers.
  • Cara Welch, Ph.D., senior advisor in FDA’s ODSP, will explore how a dietary ingredient’s regulatory status is affected by factors such as concentration, chemical alteration and ingredient combination.

“CRN appreciates that FDA is taking the time to send such a strong team to come speak with industry,” said Duffy MacKay, N.D., senior vice president, scientific and regulatory affairs, CRN. “In order for the industry to continue to improve its regulatory record, it’s vital to have these kinds of face-to-face opportunities between regulators and industry. Companies need to have a solid understanding of current rules as well as FDA’s direction going forward.”

CRN’s Regulatory Summit will also feature sessions led by other regulatory experts from companies, consulting firms and law firms, to be announced. The sessions will help attendees formulate clear direction and options for addressing current regulatory compliance matters confronting dietary supplements and functional foods.
