Now Hiring: Communications Assistant

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) is seeking a Communications Assistant. CRN is the leading trade association representing dietary supplement and functional food manufacturers and ingredient suppliers, an important and rapidly growing industry. Our purpose is to sustain and enhance a climate for our members to responsibly develop, manufacture and market science-based dietary supplements and functional food and their ingredients for nutrition and better health.

Our five-member communications department supports this mission by providing communications counsel, expertise and materials across the organization. Our communications mission ranges from internal communications and those directed to our membership to broad-reaching media interactions, social media and proactive multi-channel consumer education initiatives. As a small and collegial association, we are able to offer significant opportunities to develop communications prowess while having measurable impact.

We work hard and take our responsibilities seriously. We genuinely like each other and our members. We value (and usually achieve) good balance between our professional and personal lives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Communications Assistant works on various department projects, playing a key role developing content for member and external audiences. The Communications Assistant also supports association conferences, committees, initiatives and webinars. In addition, the Communications Assistant develops PowerPoint presentations for internal and external audiences, summarizes quarterly departmental accomplishments for the Board of Directors, posts materials on the CRN website and app, and provides logistical, administrative, and other support to members of the communications team as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field
  • Strong writing and oral communications skills. Ideally with a portfolio of materials written primarily independently that demonstrate command of language
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, some experience with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite or Canva a plus.
  • A “nose for news” and ability to quickly and effectively write in inverted-pyramid journalistic style.
  • Able to manage time and day-to-day projects and adhere to long-term deadlines—but flexibility to jump into projects that are “of the moment” in our fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Coachable and highly responsive to supervisor feedback.
  • Eager to learn and deploy new skills.
  • Fearless of technology, with an aptitude for picking up and using new tools or expanding on basics.
  • Can-do spirit, with willingness to tackle those tasks that inevitably fall to the most junior member of a team.

The highly-qualified applicant will demonstrate attention to details, superior proficiency in communications, possess critical thinking skills and have 1–2 years’ experience in a communications-related field and a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. Some travel required.
