CRN’s Online Shopping Transparency Guideline: Making Health Supplement Choices Easier and Safer for Consumers

At CRN, we understand that when shopping for health supplements online consumers should be just as informed and confident as if they were buying them in-store. That’s why our member companies have taken an important step: a self-regulatory measure designed to bring consumers the transparency they deserve when purchasing supplements online. This initiative was implemented to help consumers make better, more confident choices—no matter where they shop.

What Does This Measure Mean for Consumers?
When shopping online, it can sometimes be challenging for consumers to access the same details they might find on a store shelf. Our member companies wanted to change that. With this measure, consumers can expect clear, honest, and accessible information about our products so they’ll know exactly what they’re buying. From detailed ingredient lists to transparent labeling, our goal is to provide a seamless shopping experience that empowers consumers to make the best decision for their health.

Why Did We Take This Step?
Our members at CRN believe strongly in putting consumers first. This measure was implemented because we don’t want online shoppers to face any disadvantage compared to those buying products in a physical store. Whether at a computer or on a phone, we want consumers to feel confident and secure in their choices.

What Consumers Can Expect
We want to make sure consumers have everything they need to feel confident when purchasing our products online. That’s why we provide all the essential details right on the product page. This includes the product name and a complete list of ingredients, including any dietary ingredients listed on the Supplement Facts panel, as well as any other ingredients. We also clearly identify allergens to help consumers make informed choices.

Consumers will also see the quantity of the product shown as weight, measure, or number of items, such as pills or capsules. The name and address of the producer is provided, along with instructions for use, including dosing guidelines and any necessary cautionary notes. If a structure or function claim is made, we include the FDA disclaimer: “This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.”

Finally, to help consumers keep the product fresh and effective, we include storage instructions, like “store in a cool, dry place” or “keep refrigerated.” This information is here to support consumer confidence and ensure transparency, so everyone can make the best choice for their health.
