CRN Response to NYT’s “Do You Need These Popular Supplements?”

FEBRUARY 10, 2026 — The New York Times article by Alice Callahan, “Do You Need These Popular Supplements?,” presents a familiar and increasingly common — although grossly inaccurate — narrative: that most dietary supplements are unnecessary for the general population and that consumers would be better served by relying almost exclusively on whole foods.

Statement from the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) Regarding White House Announcement on Folate and Prenatal Health

SEPTEMBER 23, 2025 — For more than 30 years, research has clearly shown that folate plays a critical role in healthy pregnancies and healthy babies, particularly in reducing the risk of neural tube birth defects. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should make sure to take a high-quality prenatal supplement to ensure they are getting adequate folate along with other critical nutrients for a healthy pregnancy.
