CRN Members to Vote for Winner to be Announced at CONVERGENCE ‘24
WASHINGTON — Radicle Science and the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) are pleased to announce the five finalists for the first ever Trailblazing Woman Award (www.crnusa.org/trailblazer).
The new Trailblazing Woman Award recognizes extraordinary women who have significantly contributed to the dietary supplement and functional food industry, breaking barriers and fostering diversity, innovation, and leadership. CRN members will soon cast their votes to determine this year's winner, who will be announced at the association’s annual meeting, CONVERGENCE ‘24, taking place Oct. 9–11 in Salt Lake City. The Trailblazing Woman Award finalists represent a diverse group of women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and mentorship within the industry.
The finalists are:
- Rachel Brewer, Ph.D., executive director of research and development, USANA Health Sciences
- Lori Lauersen, senior vice president of global research and development, Unilever Health & Wellbeing Collective
- Amy Mozingo, vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs, SGS Nutrasource/GRAS Associates
- Yasmeen Nkrumah-Elie, Ph.D., global director for external research, ChromaDex
- Taneesha Routier, J.D., regulatory lawyer and compliance expert, XYMOGEN

Rachel Brewer, Ph.D., executive director of research and development, USANA Health Sciences, is a leading expert on the microbiome and has spearheaded the development of innovative probiotic-based products. Her commitment to mentorship and charitable work further demonstrates her dedication to the industry and her community.
“Rachel’s leadership and innovative spirit have made her a trusted figure in our industry. She is a mentor to many and a beacon of inspiration,” said Rob Sinnott, Ph.D., USANA Health Sciences’ chief scientific officer.
Lori Lauersen, senior vice president of global research and development, Unilever Health & Wellbeing Collective, oversees a $2 billion division, leading a team that has developed industry-leading products across multiple categories. She is also a champion for female scientists, creating opportunities for women in R&D.
“Lori’s leadership has been transformative, not only for our product portfolio but also for the talented women she mentors. She has helped scale a best-in-class R&D program, and consequently made a profound impact on the industry, by implementing the standards and guidance that allow our science-backed products to support consumers’ unique wellbeing journeys,” said Paola Clavijo, Unilever Health & Wellbeing Collective head of policy and advocacy.
Amy Mozingo, vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs, SGS Nutrasource/GRAS Associates, is celebrated for her behind-the-scenes work that keeps the industry wheels turning. She has successfully led countless GRAS and NDIN approvals and is recognized for her exceptional attention to detail and mentorship.
“Amy is the unsung heroine of our industry, ensuring that the complex regulatory landscape is navigated with precision and care,” said William Rowe, CEO, Nutrasource. “Her leadership and dedication are unparalleled, making her an invaluable asset to our industry and a mentor to many.”
Yasmeen Nkrumah-Elie, Ph.D., global director for external research, ChromaDex, is recognized for her ability to propel scientific advancements in our industry, connect the science with non-scientists and her active role in industry organizations. She is a passionate advocate for women in science and leads a team that manages over 275 research agreements in more than 30 countries.
“Yasmeen’s innovative contributions and mentorship have set a high standard in our industry, making her a true trailblazer,” said Eric Ciappio, Ph.D., R.D., senior manager of scientific affairs, Balchem Human Nutrition and Health. “Her insight and passion make her an incredible leader who elevates everyone around her.”
Taneesha Routier, J.D., regulatory lawyer and compliance expert, XYMOGEN, is recognized for her ability to maintain high regulatory standards while mentoring her colleagues. Her industry leadership and dedication to mentoring others make her a standout candidate.
“Taneesha’s guidance and mentorship have been invaluable, not just for our team but for the entire industry,” said Patricia O'Connell, senior technical services analyst, XYMOGEN.
